Homemade Rolled Tacos

Do you need something quick and easy for dinner? May I suggest homemade rolled tacos! These are not just easy yet tasty as well. Plus the kids like them as well. So it turns into a win/win for us.

Background

My wife and I have 9 kids so for us we need something that can feed an army and is quick. There’s no way for us to spend all day in the kitchen trying to just make one meal. That’s why we started reinventing some things that we know that the kids already like.

Homemade Tacos

We do this as more of a taco bar yet we noticed that the kids didn’t us the shells as much as we did. So that was step one to get to this recipe. Actually there really isn’t a recipe so it can be a fun thing to make from time to time. And it’s very easy to change up.

Tried Homemade Burritos

These were great for the older kids that could grab and go yet the younger ones still liked everything outside the wrapper. So this caused more work for us to try and feed the younger ones. Still make them yet not as often.

Homemade Rolled Tacos

This is when we figured out the secret to success. Our younger kids were sight eaters. If they couldn’t see it they wouldn’t eat it. They wanted to see everything not just the white outside and they didn’t like the regular shells. So we did something a little different with these.

Crescent rolls go like hot cakes in our house. All the kids really enjoyed them. I would know because if I didn’t set some aside for me they were gone before I got there.

Ground beef was also a crowd pleaser.

Black Olives have been a thing with my family sense I was a kid. The adults would get upset because the kids would steal them when they had their backs turned. Same with my wife’s family so we kind of already knew that they were going to be a hit.

Cheese need I say more!!

Tomatoes were something that either you like or don’t. That’s what makes this so great.

Mix it all up!!

My wife finally figured out that if she put the taco toppings everyone ate inside some crescent rolls then that all the kids would eat it.

The great thing about the rolls was you don’t try to push them all together so it make a kind of lattice work on the top (kids can see what they are eating).

I’m going to share the ingredients that we use just keep in mind that we are feeding 11.

  • 8 “cans” of crescent rolls
  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • One package of taco seasoning
  • 1 cup of water
  • One can black olives sliced
  • Three vine ripe tomatoes cubed
  • 1 8oz bag of cheese (we use the Mexican mix)
  • Sour cream on the side (for me)
  • Salsa if you wish.

Ground beef

Cook the ground beef on the stove until browned. Then add the taco seasoning with the one cup of water. Stir in and let simmer (just like on the taco seasoning bag).

Crescent Rolls

We use two baking sheets. Open the crescent rolls. Take unroll them and place them on the baking sheet. Make sure that the rolls aren’t stuck to each other except in the middle. These are uncooked.

Homemade Taco Rolls!

Add the cooked ground beef on top of the middle part of the crescent rolls. Add black olives, tomatoes and cheese to taste.

Put in the oven @350 for about 12-15 min.

The best part is you can cut this to any size you like. This is also perfect for the kids because sizing is so easy and quick.

Add toppings per taste as well.
